Day 67
Today i have trouble with implementing the explosion. The explosion is meant to be the affect after the bullet and meteorite meet. I am having trouble trying to make it an after affect so far I've been getting errors with my codes. Sometimes its the codes i had before or the codes i have after. I cant seem to find the problem just yet. So i tried a few tutorials on how to add blood effects on the game. I was hoping i could try a few more tutorials but since we have a shorten day, it couldn't be helped. In a few weeks ill be pretty rusty with game maker so i might change the objective at that day so i might add multiplayer so that other people could try.

Day 65
Today i made a menu for my game i added a simple menu because i don't think i need to make a sophisticated menu for this game. I created sprites for the Start, Multiplayer, and Exit. I think this game can potentially have a second player, but i think it would be simple, to create a second ship. I think i might add some ship options for the players as well. I had a problem with the restart button because i couldn't restart at one specific room, instead it restarted to the menu. I made a separate code for each room so that the restart button works differently for each, the menu doesn't have any restart buttons. I added a code that makes the restart button restart in the same room. Tomorrow i might think about adding a multiplayer or at least add something.

Day 65
Today i added particle effects and added a pause button. The pause button was easy to implement because i have done it before and used a similar pause button on the zombie game my group currently is developing. The particle effects took awhile to manipulate until i finally expand and place so that it could fit the screen. Before, it had 2/3rd of the screen being used. After adding the width, it increased in its wideness and fit on the screen. Tomorrow i might be thinking of doing the menu so that you could decide on what ships you might want to play with.

Day 64
Today i changed the size of the first meteorite by 64/64 so that the meteorites would look smaller if it were to break.Next i created a code to make the meteorites slower but, in the end it only made the meteorites spin around and go a different speeds. After that i tried to look up on "how to create a wave system." i am currently thinking of making the a wave for the a gave and the more waves you pass eventually you will fight a boss. Although i didn't make a pause button today i did find that there are many ways in creating a wave system which in my opinion is a good start. Tomorrow i will decide on either to do the pause button or the wave system.

Day 63
Today i changed some sprites to make it a bit more surprising, I changed the fingers into actual meteorites. I also changed the shapes into Smileys, i think i might change that eventually but i will keep the surprised for awhile since i have no clue what to place for them. Next i deleted the wave codes because a colleague asked me to change the speed of the asteroids. For example making the asteroids slow but then when they break, the speed increases and it becomes smaller instead of the same size. I also need to increase the size of the asteroid. Next time i will work into creating a bigger sized asteroid and might add a pause button.

Day 62
Today i gave up on finding the "Malformed If " statement after a half hour of trying to figure it out. So i started to change the player's look instead of looking like a finger, it will look like a ship that shoots. Next i changed the background so that the game would look more spacey also creating a more spacey kind of atmosphere. I then decided that i will create the pause button as well as creating a wave. For example, for every wave you clear ( wave 1, 2 ,3) the enemies HP increase by 1.

Day 61
Today i made an animation for the player, to start it would fade to white. This animation is for a the invincibility you gain when you first play, or when you die and re spawn. I created lives for the player, the life of the player would be below the score, so it would be easy to find. Next i tried to make it so the invincibility would last around 3-5 seconds, so when you start, you less likely to get killed instantly.But to do that i need to make an alarm event, and so i did. And so far I've been getting the "Malformed If Statement" so i need to figure out how to fix this problem. So tomorrow i will try and fix this problem if possible without changing anything too much.

Day 60
Today i worked on creating a death animating, i created a sprite specifically for the players death. For now, the sprite looks like a block of white squares, i will change that at another time. Next it took me a bit to figure out how to make the player to blow up and break into many different pieces. I made it so that the pieces would go on ever 30 degree angle. Next i created the "Game Over" title after you break your ship. Also below, it also tells you to press R to restart, however I'm unable to figure out how to make the game restart after the title pops up. So tomorrow i will look into that, and start on making some lives for the character.

Day 59
Today i tried to make the spawns come in safer so that the player does not instantly die unless you have reflexes. So i replaced the codes from the create event in the object obj_asteroid. before it was wherever the objects were placed, now its wherever 100 pixels away.

Day 58
Today i successfully created the score thing for my game. It was pretty simple in making the codes work as the codes just rely on global variables. Also it seems to work really well, to change the points i simply change the numbers on the global variable. Next i create an auto spawn when all the enemies die, it immediately creates a bunch of other enemies. But, I'm not entirely sure if it will instantly kill the player, so i will look into changing a few things in the future. I might have to change the bullets sizes as it is very difficult to aim, maybe the controls as well. Tomorrow i will see if i can change some codes and start on the dying animation.

Day 57
Today i completed in creating the parent, it works relatively well. when i shoot at the objects it completely gets destroyed way to fast for the object to split and create more triangles, circles and squares, So, i made another collision event, i made it so that when the bullet touches an object it will disappear which i think is a pretty good adjustment. I also started on making a score for the game so far i created some codes and events but tomorrow i will be done.

Day 55
Today i created collision and created a few more sprites. I created the scissors and the paper, and added them all to one sprite. The reason being was that so it could randomly choose a picture and place it on the room. So far its been working well. Next i made some codes for collision, and created a code for it to restart if i were to be touched by a random object. Also, the objects randomly go at random direction which also come back when they go outside the border. Tomorrow ill try to make the objects separate into a new kind of entity.

Day 54
Today i worked on creating some codes for the finger ship to shoot. At first, it didn't work as planned because it just placed a bunch of white blocks on the screen. I made a face with that dots although it was just because i was lazy to work. After a few minutes of wasting time, i finished creating the code for the player. it worked relatively well as i was expecting some glitches but yeah, it ended well. Next i tried creating some enemy objects to fight against.Tomorrow i will continue in creating some enemies. Also add in collision so that the player would die upon contact.

Day 53
Today i changed my idea of movement. with the arrows Left and Right you choose the direction you want to go. For example, when you press the arrow key going Up it will move forward and to change direction you press left or right. Also rearranged my finger ship, now its moving accurately i think. I did not know you could change the finger horizontally, which was new for me.Also created a bigger room for the game 1024 by 768. I think with this much space its enough for evasive movement for the player. Also if you were to go outside of the screen, you would come back the opposite wall which i believe is an amazing thing. tomorrow ill work on shooting or meteorites.

Yesterday, by then end my group told me to create an asteroid type game, so i started watching some tutorials. Also started to create a sprite for the game its not much, but i hope i can make it better later. Then i started on the movement, the movement will go a bit slow then fast, similar to space. Also i am gonna add some particle to make the game a bit more intense, well i hope it does. I will create stars and asteroids tomorrow so i could start on making them move so that it becomes more spacey i guess.

Day 51
Today i got into game maker after Dropbox successfully downloaded all the files for this mini game. What i did to day was create a code for climbing, well tried. Since the code climbs way to fast on walls i believe i need to reduce the speed of the climbing. Also i had a bit of problems trying to make a restart button, it worked before but now, i am having slight problems. Also, the gravity is a bit weird as the player flies left and right BUT if you pressed the arrow key going up it would slowly go down. I also need to write codes for death when they fall to their absolute doom. Tomorrow ill try to fix things up debug and continue with what i was doing.
I might add, it get stuck time to time on the walls

Today is collab day. I couldn't do much today as game maker was gone within the computer, also drop box was deleted. All the information i have is in Dropbox, which i must download in order to proceed into making a platform. But the download for game maker and especially Dropbox took a LONG time so which i just watched a few tutorials in how to start a plat former. Hopefully tomorrow i can actually start on making the moving platform...

Day 49
Today i worked on my mini platformer game for our group. Nothing special happen besides trying to make a more fluid motion on the movement. Also adding in the the right gravity for the player. At this time the keys are not working which, i will have to go back to it and fix it eventually. My next plan is to make him jump at a specific height so that it can at least jump over 1 layer of blocks. Another thing is adding inside another object, the moving platform, so that it will look pretty good.

Day 48
Today i tried to just focus on power ,metal, bio metals. What i started are medium sized oxygen generator then a solar panel then an airlock. Then i created a medium sized power collector with the max sized turbine. and finally created the water extractor.
Next i created a medium sized bio dome and created 2 pea pads and a medicinal pad. the 2 peas have fast reproductions and high maintenance. Next i created the mine and the processing plant so that i could create as much metals i could possibly have in the beginning. Then i have to create a sick bay so that i could continue with the mining after they break a few limbs. Next created a storage and a cabin so the could store and sleep. Then i created an air pad so that the people could come by and trade/habit/
I created a factory so that i could get spares and continue to fix up the wind turbines and the solar panels, which i did say i would focus on. Next i have created more pea pads and medicinal pads so that i could create food faster and starch to create more bio metals. Next, i got hold of more people 2 workers and 1 biologist. Which helped alot since i need high maintenance on the bio dome
I got 3 power collectors and 2 wind turbines with 2 solar panels so that i could get a constant energy consumption. Which i believe is a good choice because not once have i been lost power.
In my opinion i think this game is all about making the right choices. For example you must decide whether you need to focus on producing faster crops slower crops or just in the between. There is also the maintenance of the crops you must consider as well. The amount of biologist you have can increase the amount of people you can take care of it, also adding the amount of crops you can create. Also another thing, the game really wants you to think about your people since if you have less of something they need it will result in horrible consequences. An example would be less water or no power. No power equals nothing to do, if there is nothing to do, then everyone will die of less oxygen. Without water there would be no crops you could take care, and no water for the people to drink and will die of dehydration.

Day 47
Yesterday, my power didn't last enough for 16 people. Today i will create a big solar panel, big power collector and a big turbine to start off and see how it goes. Also i had another problem yesterday, i didn't have enough food to make the people last, i will create a large sized bio dome to start the game as well. And create some labs to make some meat for the people as well. Another huge problem was metal, i didn't have enough metal to create anything. So, i will create a mine early and a processing plant and create some metals so that i could build more.

day 46
Today i started terribly i created oxygen generator for them to breathe, airlock for them to get inside, a water extractor and a water panel, after awhile they all died because i don't provide enough electricity because i forgot to get the power collector.
Same starting plan, oxygen generator airlock and water extractor solar panel with the power collector this time. Next i built a canteen and a bio dome. i started adding in lettuce pads and potato pads so that the would eat more food. Next i added tables a water fountain on the canteen, and added a TV for there entertainment. Next i created more power collectors so that i could collect more power, however i didn't have enough solar panels to quickly get all the power inside the storage so, i have to go through days without electricity. They still live though, surprisingly. Next i tried to build a sick bay, but i cant for some reason, the game is going at a slow rate. I cant seem to build some solar panels as well.
Apparently i needed a sick bay to fix my workers so that they could create more metal, took me half an hour to think what to do after taking most of the pieces off. Next i need to create another bio dome as the people are getting unhappy so, i created some trees in another bio dome.
Next i created a landing pad but i needed more resources so i need more people. I need more raw materials so ill create them later. A meteorite came and killed a worker, everything will slow down now.

I think this game is really fun and exciting to see how far you survive. But i hate the fact i had to die a few times and its frustrating when your people die from a meteorite. But everything about this game is great and i want to continue this if possible.

Day 45
What To Do
In planet base you must create an oxygen factory first to start, since your people need oxygen. Also connecting buildings together makes the them able to share and travel through.Also, after building the Oxygen building you create a solar panel connect the two and add a water extractor so that the people could drink, and create and airlock so that you can bring the people and bots inside. Afterwards, you create a canteen which will be the area where the people will eat. Then you create tables for them to sit and eat, also adding in a water fountain and a TV so they could watch TV as well as drink water.The middle is the oxygen generator and the its left side is the solar panel and being that is the water extractor. on its front is the canteen, on its right is the airlock, the entrance.
Next is creating a wind turbine and a storage so that you would not lose all your power when you use too much electricity. Then after building those you create a a meal maker in the canteen and create a bio-dome right after so that they could grow the vegetables, and you need a biologist to keep that maintained or else everything is ruined.
The far left is the wind turbine and the storage, the one closest to the right is the bio dome where vegetables are being grown.
Next is to extract the materials in the colony ship, your ship. Next, you build a mine and it must be inside a mountain so that it can extract ores from it. The processing plant is the structure where you can change raw materials into usable materials. Ores can be change into metals from that plant. now that you created the buildings your people will be extracting ore from the mine, eventually the bots will be doing them.
The farthest arrow is the processing plant and that big building is the mine, where ores are processed.
Next are spares, you create a factory so that you could use it and repair the buildings so that it could continue doing its job properly without any problems. Next you build a sick bay, where you put sick people inside. At this point you have limited medical supplies so you must create a medicinal pat in the bio dome, next you create a lab a workbench for the scientists to conduct research and create medicinal supplies. Next is to create an air pad so that colonists come and habit our base. A note only colonists comes when you are doing well in surviving the base.
The building near the clumped resources is the Sick pad, and the farthest out of reach on the right is the lab. Also, hovering on top of the menu in game will tell you what that icon is which will help you start off the game.

Also don't leave the game by itself for too long, your people die unknowingly.
Controls
To move the camera you use the " W A S D" keys, also Q and E to help angle the camera. You press the + key to increase the speed of the game and press - to decrease the speed. Press Tab to open up and look inside the buildings. R and F are keys that use to increase and decrease the size of that particular building also increasing the power.What i Think
The tutorial is more simpler to understand a faster to go by, and the walk through has some ticks he misses during his speech. The tutorial gives more information of each building more precisely than the walk through, where as he went through with the each building quite quickly. Also, i should focus on more on the resources and more beds next time i play.

Day 44
Today i am taking a break from game maker and starting on a week project called planet base. This game is about survival, living in a planet collecting energy, extracting water, mining metal, anything that involves daily needs. The goal is too expand your colony and creating a self sufficient base. There are a variety of buildings you create from domes too factories.
The goals in the video is to create a base where the basic needs of the people are a priority. You use many buildings to gather water, oxygen, and ores. To fix up bots you create factories and use the things called "Spares". You create a landing base to bring people to the base to increase the population. Less resources you have the less you can create, more resources results in more happier population. Creating oxygen and food makes the people stay hydrated and full. Creating a dome for the people to sleep is also a good idea, since being sleep-deprived is never a good thing.

The meal maker combines food to create a more convenient way of absorbing nutrients. Ores, they don't specify the use of this particular element but apparently its needed. Tab reveals the insides of the dome, it is a simple click and drag, you click a certain icon to create a building in which the people will create. Also stay away from meteorites.

Day 43
Today i changed everything into codes, gravity is faster and now i am able to jump more than 1/4th of a cm. also i made changes to the movement as well, it is now able to move slowly. I have to change the structure of the character at another time. Another thing, i added another room, but it leads to no where at this moment. Next time i will create a mini game for our project, i will decide on what game it will be after some research.

Day 42
I successfully created a night cycle, it takes around 30 seconds for the whole cycle to complete. The problem was that i missed some codes from the tutorial, which costs me and i couldn't make the cycle continuous. I fixed some codes that relate to the continuous cycle, i also added some brightness with the torches, although the torches are badly made i would still say i did pretty good. I added a timer in the top left corner so that it tells you when the time it goes day to night. Tomorrow i will add a few more things with the game or start on something new.

Day 41
Today i continued working on the night cycle, so far i have problems creating some light around the objects. Also i am having trouble finding a way to make the night cycle continue endlessly. I created some sprites used for making an object light an area. There are two sprites, one as an object in game and the other as a light for that object (Torch-Light). I am almost done in creating a passable night cycle. Tomorrow i will try to finish up the night cycle.

Day 40
Today i worked on the night and day cycle, i am nearly done with the codes, so far it is working well. Right now, i need to make the cycle continuous as it goes day -> night but never goes back to day. I created 2 objects one for the night cycle and a timer for the cycle. Also, i might have to add a circle for the character. Or maybe just make it less dark and make do with what i have currently. Tomorrow i will try to finish the night and day cycle.

Today the group decided that we will change the game into platform type game. Apparently the game was messed up during there time. So, my part will be the lighting, day and night cycle. So far i am currently creating a new sprite, backgrounds, platforms, etc. Physics will be more focused in this game, since there will be gravity, jumping and many more. What i did today was research on physics creating a way to develop a code for gravity, and adding collision with the dirt blocks. Not much have been done today as we had a meeting and decided our jobs. Tomorrow i will try to complete a game with a night and day cycle.

Day 37
Today i came back to movement, researching some new ways to creating movement. There is increasing more directions for the players to move for example, going diagonally north east. And another that includes physics which adds X and Y variables with an object, which i don't have much knowledge towards that area. So far i am trying to make the player move diagonally, it has been successful. When pressing W and D keys at the same time, parenting was involved. Tomorrow i will to play around with movements that involves physics.

Day 36
Today i tried some parenting, made 2-3 objects have a similar response. zombies can kill you, and so can corpses and trees. I also continued to make objects disappear, the three different kinds of cars that i received successfully disappears upon touch. What i learned today was that you can make objects/sprites have similar properties or response. But sometimes the problem lies on some coding as well, making global codes and such. Sometimes you have to debug some codes along the way because occasionally global codes don't work with that certain code, thus you change it and make it better. Tomorrow i will try to improve on some of my skills in game maker.

Day 35 (half day)
Today i did not have enough time to really do anything new, so i decided that I will try to create a dialogue as soon as you go into a room. I didnt have time to really focus on creating an object to make it work, although i did have enough time to research some ways i could create a code to make a dialogue to appear. In the end the day went by fast so, i couldnt finish the coding. Tomorrow i will decide on what i should do next.

Day 34
Today i worked on making some test boxes and dialogues. Most of the coding worked sometimes i get some problems when i forgot to add that sprite inside the. Some problems occurred when i tried to follow the tutorial. Well, only one and everything went pretty well after. The problem was that the codes were placed in the wrong events. It was fixed as soon as i found out so it didn't take much effort. Also, the tutorial showed me clearly how to create a text box and a dialogue. Tomorrow i will see what i should do next.

Day 33
Today i finished created the invincibility buff, it took awhile but i got it. There were a few problems with the buff sprite and the player itself as for some reason there were problems concerning the collision with the buff sprite. The problem was a few codes related to the guns, but i didn't think so. Which i decided to change a little bit of the buff to make the buff successful and it kinda succeeded. The buff has some bugs as it takes 50-50 chance it will be invincible. But everything seems to be Fine so i ended it there. Tomorrow i will try to do some test boxes and dialogues.

Today i tried making lives for the player it succeeded and it was pretty simple. Although i had to debug a few things it didn't take me long until i decided to do another thing. Since it was easy and short, i started on making the player invincible. Today i tried making the player spawn in an area where enemies do not instantly grab and kill him. It succeeded in spawning, but i am not entirely sure if they are spawning to an area in which they will be certain to live. But i am certain that i get to live for 10 seconds. This tutorial gave me a simple few codes on how to make a safe spawn. Tomorrow i will see if there is anything else i could do with that spawn.

Day 27
Today i made a dynamic camera, it moves according to how far it is away from the middle. The camera was alright, i will change the radius of the player so that i will move faster towards the middle. The problem was apparently the guns, but i tried to debug the problem. However, the actual problem was the codes i have implanted, sometimes it gave me errors but i just simply typed the gml wrong. This tutorial gave me an idea of how a camera works. It was kinda easy in my opinion so i don't think i did it right. Tomorrow i will try something else that involves around the camera.

Day 25
Today i tried making bullets, it worked well besides the fact i get errors during testing and debugging. The bullets i am currently trying to do are slow, medium, and fast. Although i am only able to make the bullets at a medium speed, i am able to increase the amount of bullets that come out of the gun. During the testing phase, i got an error as i shot a bullet so, i had to debug the problem. It took awhile until i figure'd that some x and y variables were miss placed. In the end it was a success.
This tutorial gave me a way to make bullets simple and easy. Tomorrow i will continue to see what i can learn and increase my knowledge in Game maker so that i could do more intermediate level codes.

Day 23
Today i made the zombies have a collision kind of relationship between each other. Although... it freezes at times i say it is the best i can do at my level of knowledge. What i did today was i took off the Solid check box and replaced that with a collision code:
x = xprevious
y = yprevious
I don't know why this works, it just does. So i left it at that. Tomorrow i will see what i should do tomorrow.

Day 22
Today i tried to play around with google. I found this forum that could help me but, i could not understand the codes that are being shared. Apparently its very simple and it as apparently easy to understand. The codes are:

y += lengthdir_y(2, i);
I tried placing it into the object obj_Zombie with the step event, and in the end it gave me a rather unsatisfied result. Instead of colliding with each other and making it form into a single being, it froze...just froze. Also, another problem was that it would still clump if it doesn't froze. Still, i think my options are to debug, restart, or find another way to make the zombies form into a god zombie. Tomorrow i will look into this with more time.

Day 21
Today i made the zombies collide. BUT, the zombies have this problem of sticking together and freeze at one point.Also there is some weird force in the player. For example every time i get near a zombie they get pushed off as if i have this Jedi-like power. Also i get randomly stuck when i get touched by a zombie i freeze as well and i can not move. Tomorrow i will do something about this.
I made the collision group up to 500, i have no idea what it was meant for but, it kinda helped me in making the zombies stop each other from becoming on as before. Also the move to contact action seems to also help stop the zombies (for some reason).
